2007 Pickaway SWCD Program Highlights State and Federal Cost Share Programs
Through partnerships between USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service,
Farm Service Agency, the
ODNR, Division of Soil and Water, and the Pickaway Soil and Water Conservation District,
State and Federal cost share programs have distributed over one million dollars
to cooperators in Pickaway County between October 1, 2006
and September
30,
2007.
The programs include Conservation Reserve Program, Scioto
River Watershed Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, Environmental Quality Incentive Program, Wildlife
Habitat Incentive Program, Conservation
Easement, and annual farm program rental payments. Educational Program
The District’s Education Coordinator provided
hands-on activities demonstrating 65 conservation education
presentations. Other
programs were provided for, Cub Scouts, 4-H, home
schools, Science Clubs, and other special events reaching an additional 600
youth and adult. The District
sponsors the annual Area 5 Envirothon, an outdoor natural resource education
competition. The District also
provides a three-day Experience Earth Day Camp for sixty-five 3rd and 4th grade youth in the summer. A
total of 2500 pieces of educational material such as booklets, pamphlets,
magazines, soil survey books, and the like were distributed to area youth and
adults. The District
provides natural resource materials through its lending program including a
Forestry Trunk, a Stream Quality Monitoring Trunk, Stream Table Model,
Groundwater Model, the Enviroscape Model, and the Soil Tunnel.
The District’s web site, www.pickawayswcd.org,
provides a portal to the internet through educational links.
