The Soil Survey of Pickaway County (in book form) is available at the Pickaway SWCD Office. It contains basic soil information useful for any land planning program. Many people assume that soils are all somewhat alike. They are unaware that great differences in soil properties can occur even within short distances. Soil properties that affect land use are described in the soil survey. The publication also shows, on a general soil map, the location of broad areas of soils; the location of each kind of soil is also shown on detailed soil maps. It provides descriptions of each kind of soil in the survey area and gives much information about each soil for specific uses. The Soil Survey of Pickaway County is free and available at the Pickaway SWCD Office or the local libraries. If you need additional information or assistance in using the publication, please call the SWCD or Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offices. Either office can be reached at 740-477-1693. An electronic version of the Soil Survey (called Web Soil Survey) is available at the Natural Resources Conservation Service web site.
