Eastern Redcedar This medium growing species makes an excellent windbreak while its aromatic heartwood is prized for making chests, wood lining, shavings, small carvings, pencils, and non-rotting fence posts. Reaching a height of 30 ft. and spread of 15 ft., it tolerates about any type of soil and does well in full to partial sun conditions. Should not be planted near apple trees due to cedar-apple rust.
